Tour De Vaap

A compilation of music from 417

Today was muggy and full of a light rain that just wouldn’t quit, so on a whim I went to see Safety Not Guaranteed, directed by Colin Trevorrow.  The film itself, staring indie darling Aubrey Plaza (of Parks & Recreation) and Mark Duplass (of The League), was one of the best movies I’ve seen in a while.  It was fun, quirky and had a style that really set it apart from the typical indie flick.  But one of the best parts was the soundtrack.  Created by Guster lead singer Ryan Miller, the soundtrack fit the movie perfectly.   Even with the low budget of the film, Miller was able to create acoustic pieces to suit the mood of every scene.  Once song in particular, “Big Machine” was a true standout both for it’s beautiful melody and lyrics and the fact that it’s probably the first love song/scene featuring a zither.  Check out the full studio version below and if you haven’t seen the movie yet, I highly recommend it.
