November 1, 2011 ROSTAM – Don’t Let It Get To You
You may or may not remember me raving about Rostam Batmanglij‘s amazing new single “Wood 9-27 B” last week on Tour De Vaap. Well know it seems he’s at it again with a brand new single “Don’t Let It Get To You.” This song is much more upbeat than it’s predecessor, replacing Eastern drone instruments with danceable synthesizers (though he still keeps that same driving snare drum) and a piano riff that sounds very much like some old Vampire Weekend tunes. While this song wasn’t as immediately catchy to me as “Wood,” the more I listen, the more I like it. But then again, how can you go wrong with an upbeat song, with an upbeat message and an amazing producer? I don’t know exactly what Rostam has cooking up for the future, but I think I’m gonna enjoy it. Check out the new single below.

October 25, 2011 ROSTAM – Wood 9-27 B
Sunlight on your eyelids, you were sleeping. Sunlight on your back, you were dreaming.
Here’s one for all you Vampire Weekend fans out there. Rostam Batmanglij, multi-instrumentalist and producer of Vampire Weekend, recently released an amazing solo effort called “Wood 9-27 B” for free on his tumblr. This track features some gorgeous eastern influenced string arrangements, steady drums and Rostam’s soft voice, which blends perfectly with the tune. The lyrics are beautiful as well; just hearing this song puts me in a good mood and takes me out of the cold fall weather and back into the summer. I can’t wait to hear more solo stuff from Rostam. In the meantime, enjoy below and take in the last few glimpses of warmth before winter.
