June 19, 2012 Alchemist – Flight Confirmation (ft. Danny Brown & Schoolboy Q)

For those who are not familiar with hiphop producers, The Alchemist is one of those producers that has been around since the late 90s and has worked with some of the industries lead underground rap stars, from his start with Dilated Peoples then to Jadakiss, Cam’ron, and countless others, to name a few. Yet unlike most hiphop producers nowadays, due to the man’s talent and connections, he is readying his 4th studio album, Russian Roulette, to be released on July 17th. The first leak of the album is this song, entitled “Flight Confirmation”, featuring two of the industry’s buzzing artists, Danny Brown and Schoolboy Q. Over chopped guitar riffs and Spanish horn sections, these dudes brag-raps slice through the beat, until a latin dancehall song takes over. Listen for yourself and Enjoy. – D. Gold

April 10, 2012 Kanye West – Mercy & Theraflu

If you haven’t already heard these two new Kanye West tracks, you are living your life wrong. For those that need an extra push to get their lives back on track, Kanye West released two songs late last week entitled Theraflu and Mercy. Gearing up for the G.O.O.D. music compilation album and a possible solo album, Ye’ has again shown again that he can make some music. Employing one of today’s top producers (besides Kanye himself), Hit-Boy, whose previously produced The Throne’s ‘Nigga’s in Paris’, for Theraflu and a new comer, Lifted, on Mercy, Kanye seems to be going for a more thugged out, trap muzik style with these tracks; ASAP Rocky-ese type beats, with some of Kanye’s touch. Lyrically decent, I feel like Kanye is trying for the more hard hitting trap rap style of delivery than lyrics themselves, just to say that he stunts better than you and you know it, come on? But Ye’ doesn’t have to worry about that much either, cause he brings on his mates Big Sean and Pusha T to deliver endless quotables, as well as the now recently famous ATL trap favorite, 2 Chainz (aka Tity Boy from Playaz Circle — remember 07′s Duffle Bag Boy ft. Weezy). The mixture of hot beats, crazy features, and Kanye West’s touch of gold and controversy, these two tracks are on constant repeat in anticipation for anything more Kanye decides to give us…hopefully soon. — D. April 2, 2012 A$AP Rocky – Purple Swag (Jim-E Stack Bootleg)
Aight, Aight. You’ve heard Purple Swag by ASAP Rocky, but you haven’t experience purple swag like this… A young producer, who calls himself Jim-E Stack, has recently remixed the now classic Purple Swag which bring a new slowed down psychedelic chopped-and-screwed feel to the track, while keeping the joint still trill as fuck. Now, once the remix got around, the director of the original Purple Swag video from last year, Jason Ano, got a hold of it and produced a bootleg video on the remix and it is crazy. Slowing down scenes and doing some insane 3D colorizations, the video is a must watch and definitely in HD (its worth the buffer time). Below is the track off Jim-E’s Soundcloud if you tryna download. Stay Purple and Enjoy! – D.Gold

This tuesday, the Legendary Roots Crew, releases their new album, Undun. Already reviewed very highly, the Roots honestly never disappoint. This time around, the boys from Philly, bring together a concept album and an interesting group of featuring artists, including the usual rappers like Truck North, P.O.R.N and Big K.R.I.T., and wildcard pick, Sufjan Stevens. I’m really excited for this one. You can currently stream the album on NPR and check out the short videos (above) that the crew as put together in promotion for the album. Enjoy. October 26, 2011 Constrobuz

Hip Hop Instrumentals meets Chopped Up Soul Samples. You might be thinking, its been done before, so what? Look at Kanye’s early production or J Dilla’s whole discography. Nah Nah Nah, just listen to this rising producer who calls himself, Constrobuz. With the massive use of sliced samples, this boy makes beats you can vibe to. Constrobuz’s music is very chill and can only be described as waves of soulful sound. I suggest you check out the songs below and download his mixtape BEATS Vol. 2 and vibe out. – D. Gold

October 5, 2011 Big K.R.I.T. – Hometown Hero
Yeah, yeah, it’s just a Ciroc in the cooler
Not a day off but I’m still Ferris Bueller
Big K.R.I.T. is a southern boy atta Mississippi who doesn’t claim to be a thug, but more of a representer of the old-school southern hip-hop revival. As a producer and a rapper, K.R.I.T is trying to bring back the old southern sounds, and we’re not taking about the likes of Waka or Gucci, but more of a laidback Outkast in the early years spitting some conscious rhymes of real life. Dropping the Return of 4Eva mixtape earlier this year to great reviews, K.R.I.T. has been on the scene and has been touring around with Curren$y, Method Man and Smoke DZA on the Smoker’s Tour (coming to a city near year) and making a buzz for himself. In this kinda old track, K.R.I.T. flips the Adele song, “Hometown Glory” and just flows on top of it. This is one of my favorites, and if you are feeling it, check out Return of 4Eva for some more. Enjoy. – D. Gold

September 11, 2011 Foster The People ft. Kendrick Lamar – Pumped Up Kicks (DJ Reflex Remix)

Over the summer, Foster the People’s hipster jam, “Pumped Up Kids”, exploded onto the mainstream scene, kinda making everyone rethink what the word “indie” really means anymore. But anyways, with any great success comes plenty of remixes, in today’s internet age. This time, it’s a remix by DJ Reflex, who hooked with the up and coming rapper, Kendrick Lamar, for a few fun light verses. While I don’t think Kendrick is taking himself very seriously on this track, it’s an enjoyable and easy to listen to remix that doesn’t take away from the original song. If you haven’t heard Kendrick Lamar‘s name before, check out his songs “HiiiPower” and “Ronald Reagan Era” off his new album, Section 80. Enjoy. - D. Gold

July 25, 2011 Shabazz Palaces – Black Up

Now, if you talking bout it, it’s a show
But if you move about it, then it’s a flow
Shabazz Palaces is one of the strangest rap groups I have heard. This strangeness does not come from their lyrics or personas (see: OFWGKTA, Lil’ B), but from their musical composition and rapping styles. With hints of old Outkast, minimalist electronica and glitch-hop, Shabazz Palaces beats are bassy and abstract, which makes for an interesting flow for raps and induces the Hova headnod. The group recently released a new album called Black Up to very high reviews: an 87 on Metacritic and #4 on their Best Music of 2011 So Far list. While I don’t truly vibe with some of the songs on the album (like An echo from the hosts that profess infinitum), other songs just go (like Swerve… & Youlogy). With such high reviews, I recommend you to check out the album and see what you think. – D. Gold

May 30, 2011 Kendrick Lamar – HiiiPOWER
“I got my finger on the motherfuckin’ pistol,
Aiming it at a pig, Charlotte’s web is going to miss you,
My issue isn’t televised and you ain’t gotta tell the wise,
How to stay on beat, because our life’s an instrumental”
Kendrick Lamar has been floating around the rap game for a minute now, but I have kinda overlooked him, so far. Although I downloaded the Kendrick Lamar EP sometime last year, I wasn’t really impressed with more than a few songs. But recently, Kendrick’s name has been mixed in with some heavy hitters in the game, like Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, as well as some prospective up-comers, like J. Cole and Jay Rock. A few weeks ago this track, produced by J. Cole, hit the internets and caught my attention. Now with a video filled with revolutionaries and racial tension of past and present, this track clearly illustrates that Kendrick has been doing some lyrical learning from his peers. For that, I am glad, ’cause Kendrick spits on this track, hard. Keep as eye out for this dude and check out the lyrics here. – D. Gold

May 22, 2011 Notorious B.I.G. – Gimme The Loot (Superginger Dubstep Remix)

“Man, I throw him in the Beem, you grab the fucking C.R.E.A.M
and if he start to scream “bam! bam!”, have a nice dream.
Waaaammaamaamaaaa…...”
Biggie! + Dubstep! = A Really Sick Remix! This dubstep remix, by Swedish 17-year old Superginger, government name Jakob Zetterberg, has been making rounds on the internet after being uploaded to his Soundcloud a few weeks ago. As a fan of Biggie and a some good d-step, I stumbled across this gem on HypeMachine a few days ago and since, have been enjoying its genius. Mixing the Notorious “Gimme the Loot” acapella with some major wamps may make this jam a summer classic. Peep the stream below and download HERE. Enjoy! – D. Gold
