Here’s a toe tapping end-of-spring jam for you; the second single off Swing Lo Magellan called “Dance For You.” This upbeat soul-searching song is very different from the first single “Gun Has No Trigger” in style. It moves in such a different direction, that it’s hard to see where this album is gonna end up, but I can’t say I’m not excited to find out. It’s a relatively stripped down track, composed mostly of Dave happily singing around a soft electric snare drum and a guitar (though there are some surprises half-way through the track). Check it out below and see if it doesn’t put a smile on your face.
So many colors! A few months ago, we brought you the first single from the Dirty Projector’s upcoming album, Swing Lo Magellan and now we’ve got a little visual element to match. David Longstreth (singer of the band) directed this video in an “experimental” attempt at synesthesia and “true dissent.” Whatever the purpose, the video features dark shades of blue and some interesting strobe effects. Check it out above and look for the album out July 10th.
For this one, you may not want to wait until you read the post before listening. Dirty Projectors are gearing up to release their first full length since 2009’s Bitte Orca. If the first single off the upcoming album, “Gun Has No Trigger,” is any indication of what Swing Lo Magellan has in store, I anticipate this album being a top contender for best album of the year. The single is catchy, catchy, catchy. Longstreth desperately conveys his message to the sharp beat of a kick drum and well-timed female backup lines. In short, this single is pure musical genius. If you haven’t already, listen below to see what I mean.
