Tour De Vaap

A compilation of music from 417

Daily Archives: August 6, 2012

Strand Of Oaks rocked the stage as the opener for the Tallest Man on Earth in Philadelphia. With just an electric guitar and a drummer, the band introduced the crowd to their fuzzy folk live versions of the mellower studio tunes. Playing songs from their 2010 debut album, Pope Killdragon, and their newly released, Dark Shores, the audience swayed peacefully to the strong melodic vocals, at times resembling Neil Young’s, and the heavy reverb off the guitar. After the concert of amazing performances by both Strand Of Oaks and Tallest Man, I got to listening to both of Oaks’ albums and I gotta to say they are both great albums that need a listen from any folk rock fan. Dark Shores is at times dreamy, as on the closer, “Sleeping Pills” and others, rocky, like on “Last Grains”, but throughout the lyrics are very well written and the vocals are on point. Listen to “Spacestations” below and you are catch more of Strand Of Oaks on their bandcamp, including both their albums free to stream. Enjoy!
